Rocket Fishing Rods
The Rocket Fishing Rod – Product Review
Part of the enjoyment of fishing is in sharing the sport with others. Sometimes this takes the form of bringing a child along on a fishing trip. As many fishermen can relate, the younger the child the shorter the attention span. This can mean the difference of 2 – 20 minutes before the rocks begin flying out of the air and into your favorite fishing hole. Frustrating indeed!
Nowcomes a solution from the “As Seen On TV” folks…The Rocket Fishing Rod. The purpose is to be able to “launch” or cast easily and accurately for up to thirty feet. This product is targeted directly at kids and I think cleaver in its design. The Rocket Fishing Rod looks suspiciously like a large water gun or water cannon and the pump action is something kids are used to using.
Yet I have to wonder… how long before I start missing the rocks? While a child may get tired of throwing rocks after a time and begin seeking out other forms of entertainment (i.e.: frogs, pinecones, etc), The Rocket Fishing Rod opens a whole new door of entertainment, like constantly reeling in after a shot (cast) and keep shooting again and again at things like passing ducks, frogs, each other, and even those rocks we despise.
Also my thinking in taking a child fishing is to enjoy the time together talking and teaching them the proper use of a fishing rod and fishing reel. The Rocket Fishing Rod lacks the conventional design on a fishing rod. There is no long pole and guides that provide good action. Really after launching there is not much more than a reel and a line.
Perhaps I am a bit old fashioned when it comes to fishing. After all The Rocket Fishing Rod won the ICAST award for Best Kids Tackle in 2005. It does come with bobbers, a learning to fish DVD, Roland Martins Fishing Tips, and a Tackle Pack. I just know that I learned how to fish from my Dad the old fashioned way and it worked just fine. Who knows if The Rocket Fishing Rod will help a child develop a love for fishing, but one thing is for certain… it will leave more rocks for me.
