The Parachute Adams, itself developed in the 1930s, floats low into the surface film, but the horizontally tied hackle keeps the white wing post high and visible to ours and the trout’s eyes. The hackle positioning creates a soft landing so as not to spook the most skittish of trout. For ages, the traditionally-tied pattern has fooled fish in all waters and this version is an improvement! • Mimics a mayfly dun in general, but no specific one; often used as an attractor pattern; can be taken for a caddisfly when skipped across the water, a spinner mayfly that has dropped from the sky, or a crippled dun; in the smaller sizes, it can be used in place of a midge or a Trico
• Technique: in addition to the aforementioned method to impersonate a caddisfly, a suggestion is to trim the hackle and fish it as an emerger where the white post can certainly help you see it in almost any light; without alteration, fish it alone as a general-purpose attractor when there is no hatch or during a hatch (or simultaneous hatches) if you’re not concerned with matching any particular insect; works well as an indicator when fished in tandem with another
